The Harvester Vase is a portraiture of the human organic structure. emotions. and looks. The distribution of the vase shows stylistic uniformity. The Harvester Vase can be interpreted in a few different ways. The other 20 figures carry a stick-like object with three rods at the terminal. This stick-like object could stand for an instrument such as a pitchfork. This leads to the thought that the 20 figures are reapers. The reapers seem to be processing in braces. They seem to be stamping. but are in measure with one another. Their lips are pressed together which could bespeak silence. Although most of the work forces are in measure. there is one exclusion. One reaper has fallen to his articulatio genuss. doing the reaper in forepart of him to look back at him. An older adult male. have oning h is hair long and a sort of fringed header. which represents a ritual garment. take the reapers. The leader carries a long staff that is crooked at one terminal and is tapering to the point at the other. The scene is perchance a reaper festival. In the center of the vase there is a adult male who is agitating a rattling. The adult male keeping the rattling wears a fringed header. which was known to hold been a ritual garment. He besides wears a fitted cap that comes down to his cervix and has a cut out for his ears. resembling the tutulus of a Roman priest. The adult male transporting the rattling has an unfastened oral cavity. as if he is singing or shouting. Behind him are four figures. three with opened oral cavities have oning long cloaks. These people are possibly picturing a choir led by a priest. The Harvester Vase can besides be linked to spiritual readings. A adult male is have oning fells. which are linked to ritual connexions. The leader of the group could be thought of as a priest since he is transporting a sprinkler over one of his shoulders. They are nearing a figu re who is keeping a staff. which decidedly could be linked to hold a spiritual significance. Even though the Harvester Vase can be interpreted in many ways. the most popular is that it was a harvest home ceremonial. Most of the points in the piece are linked to reaping. However. there are other symbols that are can be linked to spiritual facets. These readings can be argued. However. I believe that the creative person was chiefly seeking to set accent on the human status. He puts more accent on the human emotions. facial looks. and the physical strain of the figures than anything else. All of those that he emphasized point to the human status. I think this is what the creative person truly wanted to portray throughout his work. The Harvester Vase. made with superb accomplishment depicted a March of figures. who are evidently taking portion in some type of ceremonial. whatever it may be. The Harvester Vase holds a grade of naturalism. It is a forceful feeling of a group of human existences. who show utmost emotion. Even though the Harvester Vase is rather little. the creative person was able to portray great sums of inside informations. The figures are stylistic. but besides have a realistic manner to them. The facial characteristics. looks. and physical strain are greatly captured within this piece. There is besides a great trade of gesture shown within the vase. The end of the Godhead was to stress physical strain and emotions of the figures. Overall. the Harvester Vase is an unbelievable piece of art. with a great sum of item through stylistic and realistic manner that portrays the human status. Mentions: [ 1 ] . Analysing The Impact Of Divorce On Children Social Work Essay Example
Analysing The Impact Of Divorce On Children Social Work Essay Example Analysing The Impact Of Divorce On Children Social Work Essay Analysing The Impact Of Divorce On Children Social Work Essay The term divorce is defined by Merriam Webster Langenscheidts Pocket Dictionary as an act or case of lawfully fade outing a matrimony. It is normally between a adult male and a adult female. However recent development and other societal concepts have tended to see divorce as a legal disintegration between spouses, for illustration, a matrimony between homosexual or sapphic spouses. The latter statement goes to explicate the fact that some legal power recognizes matrimonies between the same sexes. Therefore the definition of matrimony can non be restricted to the traditional description of what matrimony is. It must besides be noted that assorted civilizations have a manner of covering with divorce. To Margulies, Sam ( 2004 ) , the determination to divorce is the beginning of two watercourses of events. First, registering for divorce triggers legal, emotional and fiscal procedure in which the house clasp must be split into two. The 2nd watercourse of event is the edifice of new lives, families, who has detention of kids of the brotherhood and new protocols being negotiated. Again, one of the things that makes divorce such a alone and frequently troubled experience is that it involves a complex interaction between two different procedures. First, divorce is a hard emotional procedure. It causes intense feeling of sadness humiliation, forsaking, letdown, rejection and fury. Most of all, divorce engenders fear, peculiarly fright of loss. Peoples fear lost of individuality as partner and parents, loss of economic and security, loss of control over their lives and loss of self-respect. So the emotional procedure of divorce is one in which people have to pull off all their feelings at the same clip. A As with any other passage, there are phases that most people pass, get downing with initial convulsion, followed by battle with alteration, and finally with version and accommodation. Children of the matrimony to be honest are non speared the hurting of these processes.A Margulies, Sam ( 2004 ) . For the intents of this academic discourse, a kid is person who is chiefly under the age of 18 or person who is non yet 20 three but still in a preparation plan. A For case, it concerns a individual who is analyzing in a preparation establishment like Sheridan College. The word consequences every bit would be used in this research represent the assorted experiences, kids whose parents are traveling through divorce face. This paper will therefore set up and do clear a hypothesis to be analyzed. Assorted statements would be adduced to back up and turn out the said hypothesis. On the other manus a counter statement will be made to rebut the hypothesis. A balance treatment on the research will besides be delved into. Finally a presentation on the result of the research will be done. Hypothesis The hypothesis is there are womb-to-tomb effects for kids whose parents go through divorce . Almost 50 per centum of kids whose parents divorce show marks of psychological harm during the first twelvemonth after the event. Harmonizing to a 1994 policy statement from the American Academy of Paediatrics, such male childs become aggressive pieces adolescent misss get depressed. To turn out farther the annihilating nature of divorce on kids whose parents go through divorce are more likely to develop drug and intoxicant jobs. Pemberton K.C. ( 1998 ) in reexamining Psychologist Judith Wallerstein s A twenty- five ( 25 ) twelvemonth survey on the impact of divorce on kids, found out that although the disassociating adult male and adult female might be able to get the better of the A injury and challenges associated with divorce, the fortunes of the kids are different. Children of such brotherhoods can transport the sick effects of divorce into their ain grownup old ages. Such grownups ten d to hold fright of committedness, unstable father-child relationships and acrimonious memories of the legal system. In explicating this place farther, Pemberton K.C. ( 1998 ) , asserts I do non reason that kids have no opportunity of healthy or felicity after their parents had divorced but the challenges kids must run into after their parents divorce are terrible and annihilating . Equally much as bookmans like Pemberton K.C. ( 1998 ) and Emery ( 2004 ) have painted a atrocious image of the state of affairs, the same bookmans have conceded to the fact that some kids who experience this phenomenon turn to populate a healthy and a successful life. For illustration there are heightening plans in our schools that go a long manner to back up and fix such kids for future healthy life. A A Argument TO PROVE HYPOTHESIS As it has been noted, there are assorted statements that go to back up the premiss that, kids whose parents go through divorce suffer womb-to-tomb effects. Some of the issues are best explained when put under emotional, physical and societal effects. To most kids, divorce will represent the first major crisis of their lives. Children turn to exhibit many emotional and psychological injury. For case in a conversation I had with a kid and young person worker at Apple wood Height secondary school as portion of my readying towards garnering information for this undertaking, enumerated that, kids whose parents had gone and are traveling through divorce bend to be withdrawn in category. This behaviour tends to attest itself in their academic public presentation. This Psychological consequence makes them move aggressive towards their equals and seems to fight with normal procedures of turning up. In much the same manner, Emery, E. R. ( 2004 ) , supported this hypothesis by saying that There are those who contend that divorce inevitable and invariable devastates kids and put the phase for a life-time of emotional jobs, period . A To turn out this point farther, he attempted to compare the behavior and attitudes of kids who are perceived to be normal because they are under the counsel of their two parents and those kids whose parents are traveling or had gone through divorce. A He found out that, the really procedure of divorce between parents causes the kids to fight through the hurting and turbulence of their parents divorce. Second, through scandalmongering media or our ain craze, we lay the load of transporting a ticking clip bomb on childs by inaccurately trumpeting the jerk of war between the parents. Even if parents seem to be making good by managing the divorce crisis, kids are inevitable doomed or damaged because of divorce. After the divorce procedure, it introduces immense alterations into the lives of most kids. This encompasses direct engagement in parental struggle, economic adversity, alterations in abode and school. To him, divorce besides increases the hazard for psychological, societal and academic jobs among kids. This increased hazard is a legitimate concern for kids, parents and the community. Finally, he stipulated that, despite parent s fervent desire to protect kids of divorce, the mere divorce procedure is a load to kids. To turn out farther the long term effects divorce has on kids whose parent are traveling and had gone through divorce, Emery, E. R. ( 2004 ) , made available some statistic to throw visible radiation on his ideas. These are ; such kids are twice every bit likely to see a mental wellness professional, up to twice of such kids are likely to hold jobs pull offing their behavior. He besides said, possibly 1.25 to 1.5 times are more likely to hold jobs with down tempers. Again, twice of such kids are likely to drop out of school before graduation. What is more interesting and sad plenty to back up the Hypothesis is the realisation that, 1.25 to 1.5 times of kids at one point or the other experienced the challenges of their parents divorced. Similarly, the same kids are likely to acquire divorced themselves. Is this non chilling plenty to turn out the hypothesis? Besides, Price E. ( 2000 ) , in her book Divorce and Teens has non described the state of affairs in any positive manner. She explained that, the issue of parents contending each other, why are my parents disassociating, why must one parent move out, must I state my friends and what should be my degree of trueness to each parent, all go a long manner to thwart such kids. Finally, choler takes over and this manifest itself in aggressive behavior towards life issues. Another practical position to the state of affairs at manus is smartly summarised by his Lordship, Mr. Justice Harvey Brownstone as follows ; After more than 14 old ages of presiding in household tribunal, one inquiry has neer seized to astonish me: how can two parents who love their kids allow a entire alien to do important determinations about their leaving agreements, wellness, instruction, extracurricular activities, holiday clip and grade of contact with each parent? This inquiry becomes even more mind-boggling when one considers that the alien doing the determination is a justice, whose formal preparation is in the jurisprudence, non in household dealingss, kid development, societal work, or a psychological science. Now add the fact that, because of heavy instance tonss and crowded dockets, most Judgess have to do legion kid detention, entree, marital belongings and support determinations every twenty-four hours on the footing of uncomplete, subjective and extremely emotional written grounds ( called affidavits ) , with virtually no clip to acquire to cognize the parents and no chances to run into the kid whose life is being so deeply affected. What individual in their right head would recommend for this method deciding parental struggle fluxing from household breakdown? This are some of the inquiries that household called Judgess agonize over. Some say the reply are complicated and have much to make with societal conditioning, economic category, degree of instruction, edification, acquaintance with community resources and even civilization. I say the replies are simple. The establishment of matrimony has non been a great success in North of America Brownstone, J.H. ( 2009 ) . P.1. COUNTER ARGUMENT TO THE A A HYPOTHESIS In malice of the chilling image painted by the assorted writers back uping the hypothesis that, there are womb-to-tomb effects for kids whose parents go through divorce , the same subject and ongoing contentions have resulted in the alteration of writers positions. For case, Emery ( 2004 ) has stated that The Hazard of Divorce Are Real but Not the Whole Narrative . By this, he has discounted some of the statements he had put frontward to back up the hypothesis. He acknowledges that divorce increases kids s psychological jobs but besides sought to stress the demand to set it into its right positions. A To him, the big bulk of kids from divorced households do non endure from psychological jobs. His statement is centred on the theory of correlativity and causality . He went farther to explicate that divorce is correlated with more psychological jobs among kids but this does non intend that it is the cause of all the jobs. Scientific grounds has at least proven that divorce can non be the cause of all the affected kids s emotional jobs. Another of import factor, Emery ( 2004 ) , considered is that what happens after divorce can travel a long manner to extinguish hazard and advancing resiliency. Besides, he used the half full and half empty analogy to rebut the premiss that all the kids who experience their parents traveling and had gone through divorce face, Emery ( 2004 ) . He duelled to a great extent on a major national survey conducted by Nick Zill, Donna Morrison and Mary Jo Cairo. The survey looked at kids between the ages of 12 and 21. The survey revealed that 21 % of kids whose parents have had divorce received psychological aid. In comparing, 11 % per centum from married households besides received similar aid. It is a fact that, there is a 100 % addition between the two groups. Once once more, this state of affairs looks chilling but the truth of the affair is that, if 11 % of kids from the normal state of affairs seek head-shrinker aid, so it presupposes 89 % do non. On the other manus, if merely 21 % of the said troubled kids seek for head-shrinker aid, so the whole phenomenon is non a instance of the glass being half empty and half full but instead the statist ics should be looked at in both ways. When this happens, it can be adduced that the glass is merely 20 % empty and 80 % full. There are no uncertainty that divorce disrupts the lives of about every kid who goes through those challenges. However, great bulk of these kids are able to screen through these troubles and win. We must non besides lose sight of the demand to clap and construct on the strengths ( strength based attack ) of such kids. Besides, measuring it from both scientific and statistical point of position, shows that psychological jobs of kids whose parents had gone through divorce starts before the existent divorce issues begin to attest. A Emery ( 2004 ) . To endorse up his determination, a significant figure of 50 % was found. A A BALANCE DISCUSSION ON THE RESEARCH At this point, it is of import for one to hold a balanced analysis of the overall positions of the subjects of divorce. That is, the thoughts which support the hypothesis and the 1s that refutes it. On a personal contemplation nevertheless, I still stand by the hypothesis that, there are womb-to-tomb effects for kids whose parents go through divorce . The oppositions of this hypothesis have sought to reason that divorce, in itself, does non enforce any womb-to-tomb effects. Realistically, most kids from divorced households are resilient. There are cases where such kids have gone through those challenges and still succeeded in their life enterprises. Most have good callings and are merrily married. This disproves the stance portraying kids whose parents have gone through divorce as a serious and impossible effect. To me, what those kids go through emotionally are every bit experienced by kids who stay and grow with their parents. Some have even tended to suggested that, it is a normal procedure of turning up. As celebrated above, merely 20 % of such childs experience the phenomenon. Looking at my societal location, I was from a divorced family.A However, I had the benefits of some societal and traditional constructions to back up me and my sibling. For case, my grandma took up the fathering duty so we neer felt the absence of our male parent. Similarly, when we migrated to Canada, the school system has reding installations that helped to prolong us to travel through the normal procedures of turning up. I am proud to state my brother and I are now in college and are determined to win in our choosing enterprise. These accomplishments would likely hold non been possible in a instance of person populating with parents. This illustration goes to back up Emery ( 2004 ) , averment that even after a separation, what you do is the most of import determiner of whether your kids are at hazard or resilient. In-spite of the statement put up by the opposition of the hypothesis, advocates still argue that kids whose parents go through divorce experience womb-to-tomb effects. It has been proven above that such kids suffer emotional and psychological effects. It is estimated that over 21 % of such kids have mental wellness issues and are likely to neglect in their matrimonies. To confirm this point farther, I would wish to pull one time once more on the conversation I had with the Child and Youth Worker at Apple Wood Height Secondary School. She explained the undermentioned points from her practical position. She said kids who have experience the effect of divorce deficiency trust. They are unable to give back love because psychologically it has been registered within their bomber witting head that if their parents who claim to love them are contending and making things irrespective of the involvement of such kids, so whom are they to swear. Isolation of such kids from equals and some school activities affects their ability to develop decently into maturity. In most instances, they are seen to be withdrawn from extracurricular activities because of the shame, holding to explicate to friends that their parents are divorced. This is more prevailing in spiritual based schools like the Catholic schools. The issue of step-parents does non assist affairs either. In the improbable event that the step-parents do non acquire along with such kids, it raises tenseness within the family and puts the kid under changeless psychological injury. I am of the sentiment that it is some of these jobs that makes these kids have mental wellness issues. Finally, what is more unsafe to society is the fact that such kids are unable to set up and keep positive relationships. Some traditional positions, though non to the full supported by me, have suggested to the belief that it is some of these social jobs that have led to the outgrowth of the sub-culture like homosexual and sapphic communities. Research Outcome From the above treatment, it has been established that different communities and different bookmans have divergent positions on the impact of divorce on kids. One position position is that such a state of affairs is non serious. However, those who support the hypothesis of which I support still believe that there are womb-to-tomb effects for kids whose parents go through divorce . This new found cognition will organize as the footing for new theories to be developed.A It will besides give the chance for other research to be carried out in this country. Practically, it will enable individual parents form confederations to recommend for policy alteration in schools and kid Centres to beef up kid and young person reding within such installations. This research will besides help people within the assisting profession such as Psychologists, Child and Youth workers and Social workers to come to the realisation that this phenomenon is really prevailing within our schools and that serious attempts should be made to help kids with such challenges to get the better of them. As an anti oppressive Child and Youth Worker, it is necessary to pay particular attending to the state of affairs even if a kid suffers as a consequence of our inactivity to cover with the state of affairs. Dont call me a cougar
Don't call me a cougar Although the term cougar has become synonymous with older women who date younger men, its predatory image is neither accurate nor acceptable in the opinion of many women tagged with the label. Since theres no similar word to describe an older man who dates younger women, many feel its far from complimentary. In fact, they say it is ageist, sexist, and certainly not empowering to women. Celebrities from Demi Moore (whose husband Ashton Kutcher is 16 years her junior) to Kim Cattrall have emphatically stated, Dont call me a cougar! Cattrall in particular rejects the the idea that Samantha, the iconic character she played for six seasons on Sex and the City, is a cougar, saying that some who are uncomfortable with strong women use the term to label women. As Cattrall told the celebrity news show Extra, I dont see anything negative about Samantha and her sexuality, sensuality and choice. Long before Moore or Cattrall took a public anti-cougar stand, UK artist and entrepreneur Julia Macmillan defied the label by making the domain name dontcallmeacougar.com her own. There, she started a blog supportive of women in relationships with younger men because, as she sees it, it should be as normal for a woman to date a younger man as it always has been for a man to date or marry a younger women. Like many attractive and intelligent women who look younger than their years, Macmillan typically dated younger men not because she sought them out but because they had approached her and were more compatible than men her age. When she tried online dating in 2006, she found she wasnt connecting with the same type of men she had met in person; and those that were contacting her didnt suit her at all. Thinking that there had to be a better way, in 2007 she founded a UK dating website with a deliberately sassy, tongue-in-cheek name ToyboyWarehouse.com where members abide by one simple rule: that women date men at least a year younger, and men date women at least a year older. Nowhere on the website is the word cougar ever used. As Macmillan says, Its not empowering to women. She seems to have hit a nerve. Three years later, the site is so successful shes planning to launch a US version of ToyboyWarehouse in late 2010 in the New York City area. I spoke with Julia Macmillan about the cougar stereotype, the reasons why it persists even as women reject the term in growing numbers, and whether theres greater cultural acceptance in the UK or the US toward older female/younger male relationships. You avoid the term cougar and have said, In my view there should be no label. After all, there isnt one for a man who dates a younger woman. What is that stereotype that people have regarding cougars thats offensive to you? Its a stereotype of a woman whos looking for younger men for casual sex which is how the term started originally. I think theres so much more to it than that. The attraction is an enormous part a relationship but sometimes two people can be attracted to each other because they have so much in common. Cougar is too oversexualized and too predatory an image to apply to a broad section of women. Its just one particular type of woman, not all the types of women that necessarily date younger men. Quite a lot of women find it offensive because theyre not the predators. In fact, I know on our site its the young men who are chasing the women. These women are just fabulous. Theyre independent, attractive, but theyre not pouncing on young men. So I think its inaccurate and limiting. Women who routinely date younger men have told me its not as if either side is asking about their partners age. In fact, they say that age doesnt come up in the discussion. The men take the women at face value. Do you find this to be true? That is so true that comment is so spot on. Age doesnt really come up in the conversation. Women are looking fantastic; theyre looking better than before and taking care of their bodies. Its not like 10-15 years ago when a woman over 45 found herself abandoned by a husband who had left her for some young secretary. Today women have the same choices as men. I think cougar is a bit demeaning. Many women say it doesnt apply to them at all. They wouldnt want to be called a cougar and never refer to themselves as cougars. When you look at all the dating sites with cougar in the title there are pictures of attractive middle-aged women in a state of undress. Theres something slightly tacky about that. Theres a lot of really classy women out there who wouldnt want that label attached to them. When an older man dates a younger woman, nobody blinks. Yet not too long ago, if a woman dated a man just 3-5 years younger than herself, she faced disgust and outrage. Back then, shed have been called a cradle robber. Why does this double standard exist? Why is there such animosity towards women? I really think it has to do with whos losing ground in this whole thing. When you look at news articles in the online media referring to some new celebrity whos going out with a younger man, you get a lot of really unpleasant aggressive comments from men because theyre the ones who are going to be left out. Theyve had it their own way for so long; theyve always been able to play the field with women their own age or younger. For women, its been very restricting and socially unacceptable until fairly recently although I do think its been going on longer in a more secretive way for women to date younger men. And I dont mean to be racist about this, but it tends to be older white men that are upset. More and more women are acknowledging their sexuality which before they had to keep in a closed closet. And older white men dont like the kind of freedom that women have been gaining because they dont have so much power anymore. Unfortunately theyre the ones who tend to run the whole establishment and their views have been the predominant views. Women are becoming more powerful in more and more areas, including business and in their choice of partners. Men are going to have to accept the fact that theyre going to lose ground but that its going to be better for all of us in the end. What do you think younger men appreciate about older women? Older women, younger women thats all relative too. Ive got younger women signing up on ToyboyWarehouse who are 30 years old. Its the type of women they are. Theyre independent; theyve got great jobs; they arent looking for a man as a meal ticket because they can take care of themselves. Instead, theyre looking for a man to have a connection with. It could be a purely physical connection; it could be a mental and physical connection (which is obviously the best); but theyre not looking to be dependent on a man. I think that is what the men absolutely love. Older women tend not to have the ticking clock young women have who are looking for husband material. Older women tend to take the relationship as it comes and see how it develops. Most cougar dating websites treat women as if were simply sexual toys; they dont take the whole woman into account. Thats not the case with your website. What did you want to create in ToyboyWarehouse that you had not found on other existing sites? Ive had feedback from other women that confirmed my own bad experiences with online dating. I was 46 when tried it for the first time in the summer of 2006. On the mainstream sites I found that a woman over 40 would tend to get messages from rather boring older men. Id always dated younger men and I just wasnt interested in the type of men I was meeting. Although Id never done anything in the dating industry, I thought, well it cant be too difficult to create the kind of site that I would actually like to be on. The very name ToyboyWarehouse is humorous and witty, and thats an essential part of attraction. The idea was to be fun and playful its from a womans point of view. It evokes the image of a woman going around with a shopping cart and saying, That one looks nice on the shelf. Ill have that one. When the site went live in 2007 there was literally nothing out there for women in their late 30s or older who wanted something a little more exciting than a pipe-and-slippers man whose highlight of the week was probably watching his car in his drive. That was what was missing for me. Do you see any cultural differences in the way older woman/younger man relationships are perceived in the UK vs. the US? It seems that in the UK these women are seen as cheeky and playful, whereas in the US were much more judgmental and make moral assumptions about women who date younger men. I think there are two slightly different issues here. Theres the issue of the actual word cougar. My feeling is that its more acceptable in the US than the UK. We did a survey to see what women thought of the word whether theyd like to be labeled as that. And 95% said, No, it doesnt apply to us. We dont like that word. Possibly in the UK its more acceptable that a older woman should go out with a younger man. Every time a film star or pop star dates a younger man it puts the idea out there. In the US some might see the word cougar as positive because its a beautiful animal; they like the idea of it and they dont see it as a stereotyped label whereas in the UK we fight labels more and its not a badge of honor to be called a cougar its seen as really derogatory. Were going through a transition period. In the next generation it will be as normal for a woman to date a younger man as it always has been the other way around. Were fighting for equality in how were being referred to as well as acceptance that a women can express her own sexuality. Women are so critical of themselves when theyre younger. But as we get older, particularly once were into our 40s and 50s, we tend to become free of those former constraints. Wed like to see that freedom reflected in the partner were with. Yet it seems that at the same time women become more free and liberated within themselves, men seem to shut down. Youve absolutely hit the nail on the head. Young men dont close down but older men do. Ive heard from women who say that if they go out with a man their age, generally hes been through a marriage and hes got a lot of baggage and the kids and the awful ex-wife that he goes on about. Its not much fun for a woman to deal with all of that. Younger men dont tend to have that. Theyre much freer to appreciate a woman. We get a lot of divorcees on the site that have just come out of a 15-year marriage. Maybe their husband hasnt paid them much attention and they havent had sex for years and their self-esteem is at rock bottom; they think theyre not attractive. But then they get adoring emails from young men who say, Youre so beautiful, and suddenly they realize how attractive they really are. Its the most enormous ego boost. They begin dressing up again and then relationships start and suddenly its a whole new world for them. Your website understands what a woman past a certain age wants, and you emphasize intelligence, elegance, and wit. How is it that you get this when so many mainstream sites completely miss this? I think its because Im one of the very few site owners thats a woman. Most sites are run by corporations with all-male boards. There are only a couple of sites that I know of that are founded by women, and women know what other women want. All the marketing I do tends to be social media marketing aimed at women because weve never had problems getting men. There are three times as many men on the site as women. The more you move towards classy, intelligent, elegant, the more women will come. The more you move towards its just about sex the more you cut out a whole swath of women who wouldnt join that kind of site. You can be sexy and intelligent thats going to come through in a site but you cant just push it as a sex site, because that will put a lot of women off. Ive tried to make sure that ToyboyWarehouse is responsive to our UK members. Ive been good at listening to what they ask for. Id like to hear what women want in the US version of ToyboyWarehouse. The tagline in the States will be Where smart meets sexy and I think that encapsulates what its really all about.

Where does the law apply and the legal position in different Term Paper
Where does the law apply and the legal position in different organizations - Term Paper Example Property law deals with acquisition, ownership and disposal of both movable and immovable property. Private law is a branch of the legal system which regulations relationships and duties that individuals owe to each other (Weinrib, 1995). Some of the branches of private law include commercial law that deals with business contracts and other legally binding contracts between individuals. Tort law is another branch of private law that deals with civil wrongs which are independent of contracts such as negligence and defamation committed to other individuals. Family law is another aspect of private law that covers domestic relations like marriage, adoption and divorce (Weinrib, 1995). Labor law is another branch of private law that is interested in solving employment disputes such as collective bargaining agreement issues, dismissals and redundancy. Private law also includes property law that deals with the acquisition and disposal of property such as real estate property and the rights of individuals to the individuals (Weinrib, 1995). Inheritance and succession law deals with inheri tance of property and wills. Private international law is also part of this branch of the legal system and deals with laws governing nationality, immigration, laws on aliens and nationality laws. Private international law is mainly covered by the international treaties that govern the rights of aliens and asylum seekers in other countries (Weinrib, 1995). The person bring the case under private law is known as the claimant while the person being sued is the defendant (Cooke, 2011). Tort Law is the main branch of private law. Tort is a civil wrong, breach of trust or equitable obligation, and it is independent of contract. The remedies for torts are a common law action for unliquidated damages. Torts arise when one person owes duties to another due to operation of law. The main objectives of Tort law are to restore rights of individual

Microeconomics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Microeconomics - Essay Example There is a huge demand for Australian iron ore in China due to the high quality of the ore. The high Chinese demand for iron ore has also led to the hike in prices of iron ore in the world market (Rutkowski, 2010). All these have benefited the export of iron ore from Australia especially the Western provinces. According to reports China serves the biggest market for Australian export and the value of export of iron ore from west Australia was $13.82 billion in 2007. This was almost 60% of the net export of Australia (Zpryme: Emerging Markets Group, 2008). The wage rate has also increased steadily in Australia with mining being the highest paying occupation. A study of the regional developments in Australia shows that West Australia is the second state with the highest average annual wage at $70,101. The surge of export is expected to continue in the future. As a result it paints a bright picture for the forecasts about GDP growth. Australia has an unemployment rate of 5.2% which is v ery close to full employment and in the mining regions of Western Australia it is 4.7% (Australian Regional Labor Market, March Quarter 2011). Impact of increasing demand for iron-ore The high demand for steel by China has led to a rise in the global price. The global iron market uses an annual benchmark system for pricing. By this system the iron mills enter into a contract with the producers of iron ore for a period of one year and that price is followed for all transactions till the next year when the prices are revised. Iron is a very important component in all the manufacturing goods. So the iron mills want to ensure that there is no random fluctuation in prices that destabilizes the market. However in the rise in iron ore prices at a fast rate from $37 per ton in 2004 to $101 per ton in 2009 has led the major iron ore manufacturing countries like Australia, Brazil, and China to lobby for a shorter period of contract. This will allow the companies to revise the prices sooner an d thus make higher profit. The Chinese demand for iron ore is exogenous and depends on the global demand of steel. In other words the demand for iron ore in China does not depend on the price of the iron ore but on the global demand for steel. This is evident from the fact that in the previous years we have seen a simultaneous rise in the price of iron ore as well as demand for the ore in China. Therefore, though a short term contract will lead to an increase in the cost of production it will not necessarily reduce the demand for the Chinese steel (Rutkowski, 2011). For this reason, though Chinese steel mills are trying to negotiate the short term contracts, but their high demand for steel to continue operations has made them unable to have advantageous ground in these negotiations. We shall explain the logic with the help of a diagram. d dââ¬â¢ sââ¬â¢ Pââ¬â¢ P s dââ¬â¢ sââ¬â¢ d O q qââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ qââ¬â¢ In the above diagram, we have tried to show the effect on the price of iron ore for a shift from short term to long term contracts. A long term contract fixed the price at a level p for any quantity. As a result the supply curve PS becomes inelastic. An exogenous rise in demand for goods shifted the demand curve from dd to dââ¬â¢dââ¬â¢. Since the price remains fixed, the equilibrium quantity rises from Oq to Oqââ¬â¢. However a short term contract would make the supply curve more elastic. Regular revision of

Gender Discrimination Against Women in the Workplace Essay Example for Free
Gender Discrimination Against Women in the Workplace Essay Traditionally, women have been considered to be the weaker sex and subordinate to men. Moreover, their roles have been assigned to domestic and childrearing duties. The job market is male dominated, and women are often considered to be out of place therein. Women face considerable sexual discrimination in the world of work, significantly limiting their employment prospects and subsequent advancement in their careers. Women generally find it more difficult than men to acquire a fulltime job. What is more, when they can successfully find work, they often struggle to extend their reaches and advance to higher positions. The jobs women are granted are very often those with low status and correspondingly lower income. As Harolambos (Sociology: Themes and Perspectives) says, ââ¬Å"Women face a number of disadvantages in paid work. Firstly, they tend to be lower paid than men. Secondly, they are more-likely to be in part-time work. Thirdly, they tend to concentrated in the lower reaches of the occupations in which they work. Fourthly, women tend to do particular types of jobs, usually those with low status.â⬠In aquiring a job, it must be remembered that more often than not, the employer is male. Men are the ones in the job market with power and authority, and thus make the majority of the decisions ââ¬â including who gets hired. As Peter Worsley (The New Introducing Sociology) puts it, ââ¬Å"Within the gendered workplace, it is invariably men who are overwhelmingly in positions of power and authority. It is men who, by-and-large, make decisions.â⬠When prospective female employees are being considered for employment, several biases tend to come into play in the minds of the employers. Firstly, male applicants for the job are often given more preference because it is assumed that they have a wife and family to support. In the view of many employers, the role of women as breadwinners is a subordinate one to that of their husband (if she is married). Added to this fact, women lead more complex social lives than that of men. They often must balance their roles as financial providers and child caregivers. Employers often ask personal questions to female applicants. They aim to obtain background information. This may include her marital status, whether she has any children and their ages, or if she is a single mother. Then they interpret these pieces of information in several, prejudiced lights. For example, if she is married, they assume that her husband is the primary breadwinner and her role will be subordinate. This puts the female applicant at a disadvantage when compared to a male applicant with a ââ¬Å"wife and family to support.â⬠Or they may assume that a single parent mother with a young child may need too much personal time to fulfil her parental roles at the loss to the employer (manifesting as a loss in ââ¬Å"man-hoursâ⬠). Women ââ¬â both single and married ââ¬â may even be asked if they intend to have children at a job interview, perhaps informally. And if they say ââ¬Å"yesâ⬠, thoughts of maternity leave, subsidized childcare and their costs immediately spring in the minds of the employer. A woman who leaves her job on maternity leave often runs the risk of not having a job to return to. ââ¬Å"Britain for example, has the lowest rate of maternity leave in the European Union. Sixty percent of women in the United States have no adequate access to such leave.â⬠(David Bender and Bruno Leone, 1989) In Trinidad and Tobago, women had virtually no protection from such discrimination until 2001, when the Maternity Leave Act was passed ââ¬â guaranteeing that their job would still be available on their return. Many mothers are at pains to find fulltime work. Their parental demands make it difficult to pursue a fulltime career. Employers often make no provisions for them, as well as women returning from maternity leave, in the way of workplace creche and nursery services. Their part-time status means that they earn significantly less. Ironically, they earn less just at the time when they need more funds to support adequate childcare. The jobs women are usually able to get tend to be of low status, and low paying. ââ¬Å"Society has made it such that even if a woman wanted to go against the norms and get a job in the work force she would not get very far. About 75 percent of the jobs in the well paying professions are held by men and even if women are able to get equal jobs as men they still get paid considerably less.â⬠(David Bender and Bruno Leone, 1989) In the professional world, women seem to be trapped in the clerical field, with very few ever reaching managerial positions, even and despite of their having adequate qualifications. In 1950, women composed 30 percent of the workforce. Over 50 years later, this number has increased to 47 percent. Yet, today, women who work full-time, year-round earn 76 cents for every dollar men earn. This is in part due to the limited career options of women compared to that of men, in addition to the usual disparity in pay. Many jobs are so designed, that their ââ¬Å"qualificationsâ⬠are deterrents to female applicants and favour males. For example, to be a firefighter, you have to pass a strength test ââ¬â and even if a woman passes, she may still be denied access if she is not of the required height and weight. Thus, such jobs tend to be male oriented. Increasingly however, women are being granted them as old attitudes and norms change. But this has lead to yet another ill ââ¬â workplace violence against women is on the increase in such careers. It seems that in traditionally male dominated fields, such as the armed forces and the utilities, women earn less only to suffer more. In 2001, 14,170 lost-time injuries or illnesses resulting from assaults and violent acts on women in the American workplace were reported, whereas men suffered from 9,464. Although women compose 47 percent of the workforce, they suffer 60 percent of these attacks. About 36,500 rapes occur in the workplace annually, approximately 80 percent of which occur against women. In 2001, female fatalities in the American workplace as a result of assaults and violent acts numbered 30.8 percent. Men however, had only a 13.9 percent workplace fatality rate due to assaults and violent acts. Without doubt, women are the ones who suffer more from workplace violence. Unquestionably, women experience discrimination in the world of work. Although the prospects for improving the current state of affairs may seem bleak, there is hope. As increasing numbers of workingwomen and their supporters lobby for change, those in authority have started listening. The gender disparity in pay is decreasing and women now have a greater range of career opportunities. Progress has been slow. But considering it requires the changing of norms established from the dawn of society, the advancement has been significant. While gender discrimination may exist for quite some time to come, it can be expected to decrease as time goes on.

Journey into Self in Nicola Griffithââ¬â¢s Ammonite and Nancy Springerââ¬â¢s Larque on the Wing à à à Let your soul roam free. Discover your true self.à Play with your inner child.à Share the memories of your ancestors.à Understand your parents.à à Have total self control. Open yourself up and peer inside.à These are accomplishments most humans will never achieve, but Nicola Griffithââ¬â¢s Marghe from her novel Ammonite and Nancy Springerââ¬â¢s Larque from her novel Larque on the Wing are able to do all of these things and more. They are accomplished not simply through careful, quiet reflection, but from action, adventure and danger which drive them to the point at which they must adapt and grow or lose themselves forever.à Both women are fully grown at the time of their respective adventures, both have struggled through puberty and young adulthood, and have already ââ¬Å"come of ageâ⬠in so many words,à and both are strong individuals who seem relatively happy with their work and their lives.à However, because of the conflicts they are thrown into, they receive the chance to understand themselves more fully.à Marghe and Larqueââ¬â¢s adventures and misadventures open up possibilities for them to look deep within themselves and discover who they truly are-to remember their pasts, gain insights into their personalities, and to fully realize their potential as human beings.à All of these things combine to paint exciting stories which give the reader greater insight into the human mind and a chance to explore gender roles in ways unavailable to us in our day to day life. à à à For Marghe, her stay on Jeep was supposed to be short, a trip to study the people and their society, but once she realized that she would be spending the rest of her life there, sh... ...natural and healthy.à Both authors have presented a view of gender in which having specific ââ¬Å"male,â⬠or ââ¬Å"femaleâ⬠qualities is unimportant, and what matters is exploring all of your potentially human qualities. à à à Marghe and Larque unexpectedly embark on quests to learn more about themselves, and what they discover is more than they had ever thought possible.à They connect with their pasts, discover hidden desires, and gain insights and abilities which cause them to grow exponentially.à They discover who they truly are.à Truth with a capital ââ¬Å"T.â⬠à à As Lark proclaims near the end of the novel as she battles her mother in a battle of the wills heightened by their psychokinetic powers, ââ¬Å"I am ME!â⬠à à (Springer, 1994) à Works Cited Griffith, Nicola. Educational History
I enrolled in Mentor College which is at my birth town of Mississauga at the age of four years. Between 1994 and 19 97 at mentor college, I went through senior kindergarten and grade 2 respectively. However, my family was forced to more to Ontario following the demands of my fatherââ¬â¢s career that required to change is place of work from Mississauga to Ontario. At Ontario, I began my education at the Toronto French School in 1997. While at the school, the vigorous curriculum forced me to start playing competitive tennis as a refuge from the hard school curriculum. Though highly dedicated towards improving my tennis ranking through playing more tournaments, the school was however, not supportive towards students athletics.Recommendably, my grade improved from grade 3 to grade 10 in the 7 years that I spend in this school. The search for student athletics supportive school made me seek transfer to St. Robert Catholic high school in 2005. In my new school, I improved in the tennis r ankings which gave me the insight of even playing tournaments of higher level. This was still demanding as it required more attention and time for its score.Commendably, my new school wasà highlyà supportiveà an invitationà which synchronized my effortsà evenà towards travelingà abroadà in representing Canada in theà internationalà Juniorà competitions . British Health System for US.
The British Health System has been one of the most successful in the world. It has been claimed as the best system in the world. The United States also has got its own health system administered through the Health Management Organizations (HMOs). The US has disagreed with this claim by the United Kingdom and as a result, several studies have been carried out to establish how best and competent the British National Health Service system is compared to system being used in the US. This paper is going to discuss this claim.First, it will describe the National Health System of Britain, how well it is working for the British, then a comparison of the health care needs for the Britain's population and the United States population will be made as well as other considerations that need to be assessed before it is decided whether the NHS is appropriate for the US. An argument as to whether the model may or may not be adopted will be made before a position stand and a conclusion are made. Desc ribe the NHS 650 The NHS is the health care system in Britain which is public funded. It provides services to any resident of the UK with most of the services being free at the of use by patients. However, eye tests, care for teeth, prescriptions and personalized health cares are charged. The system is the England's major health care provider. It was established through an Act of Parliament in 1946. It has been paralleled by the private health care sector which serves less than 8 percent of the population. Much of the funding is from taxation of the citizens. This system is under the administration of the Department of Health. Most of the department's budget is allocated to the NHS.It has now been established that the NHS is the largest health service in the world and is also the fourth largest direct employer in the world (Luft, 2000, p. 17). A brief history of the NHS reveals that it was created by Clement Attlee's Labor government in an effort to bring welfare- state reforms. Just like any other organization, the NHS has got its core principles. It is committed to ensure quality health care to every one, free services at times of need based on the client's medical need but not based on their economic status (D H. ,2000, p. 57).The main aims of the system is to provide global service on the basis of peoples clinical needs but not their ability to pay, to offer a comprehensive set of services, to adjust to ensure the services they offer addresses the needs and preferences of people as individuals, as families and those care for them, to offer services that address the needs of various populations, to ensure minimal errors in their work while improving the quality of their services, to value and support the professional and support staff, to utilize public funds allocated for health care to address the needs of NHS patients only, to partner with other providers of similar services to ensure seamless service to clients, to work towards having a healthy nation wi th minimal health inequalities, to keep the individual clients confidentiality while providing free access to information related services, performance and treatment information. The structure of NHS in Britain begins from the Department of Health which takes care of the political issues concerning the service. Under the DH are 10 strategic health facilities (SHAs) which are in charge of all NHS operations specifically the primary care trusts in their regions. The NHS trusts are several and include Primary Care Trusts which are in charge of primary care and general public health. They have been reduced by almost half in the recent past to reduce costs and to bring services closer together. These Primary Care Trusts oversee about 29000 general practitioners and about 18000 dentists within the NHS system and also commission acute services emerging from other Trusts within the NHS and private sector. These trusts control about 80 % of the total NHS allocated budget. Other administrative structures under the Department of Health include NHS Hospital Trusts, Ambulance Services Trusts, Direct Trusts in charge of communications, Trusts in charge of mental health as well as care trusts (HPEDIS- US,2000, p. 26). The system has the largest number of staff of about with 1. 3 million workers and nearly all medical doctors and nurses in Britain working either in the NHS or in the Trusts or NHS run hospitals. The budget for NHS in the 2008/9 fiscal year is about 94 billion and all is from government funds (Dudley, 2001, 1088). NHS working for the BritishThe British National Health Service has in the recent past been claiming that the way it uses its resources is one of the best and most effective systems of health care in the world. The truth about this claim has been known when it was established that the system is cost effective with a per capita expenditure of about 1,764 US dollars. The British National Health Service provides very comprehensive health service to the citi zen of the United Kingdom. Some of the services in this system include admission in hospitals, outpatient services, preventive and ambulatory care services, quick response services to address cases involving accidents and other forms of emergencies, sebacute care, eye clinic services, dental care, rehabilitation of patients as well as home based health care. The British National Health Service system allows free access to medicines and other prescriptions to populations who fall under the social category of children (those below 16 years of age), the senior citizens (above 60 years) and those with special needs like the disabled (Anderson,2001, p. 230). British National Health Service has also subsidized the cost of buying medicines and other prescriptions to an average cost of about10 US dollars to the rest of the population who lies within the remaining age bracket and social groups. The National Health Service is working very well for British in remitting dental and long term psyc hiatric care needs for its population. The non medical residential health care is one of the National Health Service's programs that are run outside the system's budget. It is essential to note that the National Health Service system is for the service of the whole population in Britain and this is a good stance when compared to other world systems, for example in the Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) in United States, that serve only the members who comprise mainly the government and private sector employees (Luck,2001,p. 153). Health care needs of the US population Versus the needs of the UK population The health care needs of the United States population and that of the population of the United Kingdom can be deduced from the the mandates of the National Health system of Britain and the Health Maintenance Organizations of the United States because these two systems were set up to address the medical needs of their populations.Kaiser Permanente based in California is the larg est Health Maintenance Organization in the United States and shares every aspect with all other Health Maintenance Organizations and therefore the health care needs, the organization, administration, health care delivery and the kind of services delivered are very similar and therefore in this discussion, the health care needs of the population visiting Kaiser Permanente will be assumed to represent the health care needs of the whole population of the United States (Buisson,2001, p. 34). Before patients get treated, it is a medical requirement to meet a physician for consultation and diagnosis to establish the kind of disease or condition he or she is suffering from. Whether in the United Kingdom or in the United States, all patients have this common need. But the way this need id addressed in the health facilities of these two countries is quite different (Barakat,Wilkinson,Suliman,2003. p. 642). First, the amount of time that patients have to spend before they make consultations is longer in the United Kingdom than in the United States. This was established following a study that was carried out to establish efficiency in service delivery in these two countries. From the study, it was shown that it takes 13 weeks for about 80 % of patients who are referred to physicians before they actually meet the physicians in the United Kingdom while the same size of patient population in the United States take only about 2 weeks before they actually meet their physicians (Richard, 2002,p. 139).Similarly, for 90 % of patients who needs inpatient treatment have their needs met within a period of 13 weeks in the United States while the only about 41 percent of patients in need of inpatient treatment in the United Kingdom of the Great Britain can have their needs addressed within the same period of time. 90 % of the people who have been diagonalized and a surgery prescribed in the United States takes about 13 weeks before their medical needs can be met while for the same per iod of time only 41 % of similar population in the United Kingdom will have be treated. Also, the number of days a patient spends in waiting for his medical administration otherwise called bed days in the US are far much fewer than in the Unites Kingdom based on collected statistics that indicates that 1000 patients spends an average of 327 acute bed days in the US compared to 1000 acute bed days in Britain for the same population. (WHO, 2000, p. 27).Concerning the insurance need of the population, competition in the US Health Management organizations (HMOs) has led to an efficient satisfaction of this need because the people can shift from one Health Management Organization to another if they are not satisfied with the way their medical insurance needs are being met. This is because most HMOs in US are not funded by the government and therefore they have to catch up and compete favorably with the market forces of supply and demand which calls for quality services when competition i s tight. Whether customers are satisfied or not by the way the UK NHS addresses their insurance needs, they have limited choice since the NHS is supported by the taxes they pay to the government. This implies that the need for insurance in the National Health Service is poorly met compared to the Health Management Organizations. Both populations require cheaper access to prescribed medicines. The National Health Service has tried to meet this need partly by exempting those with special needs, the aged (over 60 years) and the children (those under 16 years of age) while the rest of the population pay about six pounds for all prescriptions. The US Health Management Organizations have done very little in meeting this need because the population pays about five US dollars for every prescription (Sekhri, 2000, p. 834). It appears that the British population requires more long ââ¬â term psychiatric care and dental health services than the United States population. This argument is base d on the fact that the expanse and distribution of the health facilities and related services is determined by the immediate medical needs of the respective population.Based on the same argument, it is likely that the United Kingdom population's non medical health health needs necessitated the establishment of a long term care and home based health care. Since this kind of care has not been established established within the US Health Management Organizations, it is arguable that the US population do not have such health needs or else the needs are too few and thus too insignificant to necessitate provision of these services by the Health Management Organizations. Other factors to consider in determining the appropriateness of the NHS model for the US It is important to access the kind of policies that govern the administration of National Health Service whether they are compatible with the current policies in administration of Health Management Organizations. For example, there are policies that limit the amount of hospitalization the Health Management Organizations will cover. These policies are meant to ensure that less money is spend on hospitalization so that more money can be spend on other types of care such as surgical and specialists procedures. The compatibility of National Health Service policies (which are considered lesser) to the Health Management Organizations' policies should be considered to avoid policy conflicts in case the National Health Service system is adopted in the United States. It is essential also to consider whether National Health service will be in a position to meet the insurance needs of the United States population.Due to competition in health care provision in the US, the US population has been used to effective ways of satisfying their health insurance needs. If National Health System is introduced in place of Health Management organizations, the US population will be forced to adopt to a less efficient system. This is a ret rogressive trend in the health care provision sector and much of the population will be opposed to this new system. However, it is important to consider whether the current system in Britain provide for adjustments to make it more competitive and therefore uplift it to fit in the United States context. If such provisions are impossible, it will also be impossible to have this system in the medical and health service of the US population.Still on the issue of insurance, about 12 % of the United Kingdom population has taken private medical insurance as a security in case they may require non emergency surgeries or they may need to access specialists quickly(HCFA, 1998, p. 36). On the other hand, very few Americans have taken this private health insurance. Much of the population rely a single health insurance which has served them efficiently. Based on this point of view, the United States government may need to consider the fate of its population when they need to access specialists o r non emergency surgery because the National Health Service seems to be slow in reacting to these needs. Adopting a new health system should be aimed at improving the welfare of the US population. Any new system require the support of the population and politicians. The government should first consider civic education to enlighten the population on the benefits of shifting the health care system from the Health Management Organizations to National Health Service system in order to win the social and political goodwill with respect to introducing the new system. Argument: The model may or may not work The introduction of the National Health Service system of Britain in place of the America's Health Management Organizations to serve the American people may from one point of view be workable while it is totally an impossibility from another point of stand. The National health Service covers groups of populations from all socio-economic classes, but in America, Health Management Organiza tions mainly serve those in the mid- lower to middle socio- economic groups because the rich families go for health care options that are a little bit expensive and more flexible. The health systems used in America, according to the US standards, are in the ââ¬Ëworking class' category (Blendon, 2001, p. 37). But the population has the poor and non working people who would be happier to enjoy health care. With the support of this population and politicians who support equality and respect the opinion the minority, the adoption of the National Health Service in the US can be made a reality. The system may be supported by the population on the basis of the subsidized pharmaceutical costs. Currently, the cost of pharmaceuticals in the US is 2 percent to 60 percent higher than that of Britain and the US population admire this aspect of the National Health Service (Ayanian, 2001, p. 60).It is also important to note that National Health Service system is set to serve the entire populatio n while American Health Management Organizations system serve its members who majority get the membership through health plans that have been sponsored by their employers or by the government. This leaves out the unemployed population. For the government to ensure parity in health services provision to its citizens irrespective of their employment or economic status, it may require to consider the National Health Service system. Most citizens of the US require adequate dental care services, but this need has not been addressed well by the current health care system. On the other hand, the health care system of Britain has optimized on this population need. Therefore, with the introduction of National Health Service system, it is possible a large size of the US population will embrace it. On the other hand, data sources have revealed that general practitioners who give general care to patients within the National Health Service system have a starting salary of 43 % lower than their co unterparts in the US. For health care consultants serving within the US Health Management Organizations System, their starting salaries are about 115 % higher than the starting salaries of their counterparts holding the same positions within the Britain's National Health Service System (Danzon,2000, p. 170).If the system is adopted in the United States with its salary scale policies, it will be a major demobilization to the medical practitioners mainly due to the low salaries. This will lead to poor quality service which cannot be tolerated in the US. In short, the National Health Service system can not work in the US unless major amendments are made. If the decision of whether to adopt the National Health Service system or not were to be based on the per capita cost of medication, then the Americans will be less responsive because there will be no difference in the cost of medication per year. However, this is a generalized opinion based on national a figure. There will be no signif icant change in the economic status of the US because the per capita expenditure in medication for these two countries is appropriately the same. The Britain system has also been viewed to be slower than the current system in use in the US. Conclusion It is true that the British National Health Service system is one of the best performing systems of the world but this is in respect to certain aspects like its workforce, the way it considers the poor, and diverse services. But the current system operating in America is in itself more efficient and effective and most citizens are comfortable with it. The NHS offers very little salaries to practitioners and this in America can be a risk, because it will lead to poor services.Americans can never accept a system that is going to make them lark behind and therefore cannot accept the NHS system. desert fox essays
desert fox essays Erwin Rommel was born in 1891. As field marshal he was known best for his capture of 9,000 allied forces during World War I. On the Germans invasion of France in 1940, Rommel commanded the well-known Ghost Division or otherwise known as the German 7th Panzer Division. Pushing every machine and every man to extreme limits, Rommels forces moved 350 miles in six weeks. Never had tanks moved so far in such little time. Rommel joined the German army in 1910. He won awards for his bravery in WWI. After he pushed to the English Channel in 1940, and received the many victories in the Ghost Division he was made lieutenant general and placed in command of the Africa Corps in North Africa, where he earned worldwide recognition. Rommel was a popular military leader even though his tactics were unconventional to other leaders. Other than sit in command rooms located far from the battle field to direct the troops, he instead lead his troops from the front lines. He was also known to help the soldiers build a bridge or if the convoy was in trouble was there to give a helping hand. In 1944 the Western front was the only area that hasnt had full allied assault. Hitler put Rommel in command of the defense of the western front. He then went to survey the coastal defense from the north to the Mediterranean, and was discouraged at the sight. The defense was widely scattered, none of which could withstand a full scaled allied attack. The infantry were in the worst condition. They included POWs and German soldiers exhausted from fighting with the Russians. The men were poorly trained, had hardly any artillery, and some even lacked the physical strength to endure military action. Although the situation seemed bleak, Rommel set out to bring order to the western front. Just the sight of Germanys great hero raised the spirits of the poorly trained forces. He organized the troops and set them ...

Assessment for learning Essay Example for Free (#9)
Assessment for learning Essay Learning is an innate capability of a person. People perceive things and learn through their experiences while they grow up and develop accordingly with their ages. Aside from the normal people who learn in the normal way, there are off course other people who are above normal, after which learn through special trainings and conditioning. People learn accordingly with their capacity to gain information and store it in their minds. It is not only by sending children to school that they are learning but also through their real life experiences that require not only for their intelligence but also for their emotional skills. In determining the learning rate of a certain group, it is very important that the surveyor is able to gather the information about the specific group such as age range, family background, nutrition of the students and other factors that actually affect the learning activity of a person, be it a cognitive or conditional learning. There are also specific tests that can be given to the students or the target learners to have written and documented results. Suppose I chose the pool of elementary students that includes children ranging from 10-11 years old. These children are already exposed to a large scope of media that portray the different roles and scenarios in the society. If I am to analyze their emotional intelligence, I would give them examinations that can determine how well they interact with other students such that they will be told to work on groups. Through the activity, students with good family background can actually have the bigger possibilities of leading the group thus causing peace whenever other children tend to fight for what they believe. Off course there will be passive kind of children and the best tool to give or offer them are group dynamics that can actually unleash their inner talents. That is also possible if the conductor of the test is encouraging and enthusiastic. In terms of academic assessments, children on this age range can be fed with lectures and practice activities such as solving math problems or subject and verb agreement. In my past experiences as a child, it is very effective for me that children will be given the chance to construct their own sentences and math problems. After that, children will be asked to solve and analyze what they do and have it in group discussions. Group discussions can help the children to gain other ways of solving such problems and understanding different sentences. It is also helpful that the teacher follows up the development of the understanding of a student. Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the lesson is necessary thus providing them devices and strategies that can help them understand more the difficult points. Specific tools that can be used in assessing the ability of a person in Mathematics and English can be flash cards and reading literary pieces (stories, anecdotes) respectively. Both can add up to the expertise of a student to the subject matter. Every child deserves the right for education. For those who canââ¬â¢t afford it, there are still many ways to supply your children with it; either tutoring them every day or enrolling them a school that caters scholarships. It is vital to feed the children with knowledge while they are young and still can acquire and save them to their memories. The value of education is much more priceless than any treasure in this world: not fading but still growing through ages. QCA WEBSITE. Assessment for learning. Labor Market Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Labor Market - Research Paper Example This entry by Wal-Mart also causes a drop in retail income in the areas of operation (Weinswig & Tang, 2010). The entry of Wal-Mart into these new areas also means a drop in prices; hence, increasing the purchasing power of the customer because prices are reduced not only at Wal-Mart, but also in other stores. Therefore, the customer benefits the most. Low income families tend to benefit the most despite the fact that labor market cost may be also unfavorable. This paper will discuss the labor market from which Wal-Mart Stores obtain candidates for vacant positions in the company. It will also examine the levels of education required to prepare new workers obtained from this pool of positions in the company. The training needed for these new workers will also be looked at. When Wal-Mart opens any new store, it employs hundreds of workers. More frequently than not, the amount of people applying for jobs is usually over 20 times higher than the number of positions to be filled. I reali zed that the entry of Wal-Mart in most of these areas is not well received by the local people. Many have attempted to block Wal-Martââ¬â¢s entry into their communities with a multitude of excuses. The main reason is that they cause low wages in the retail market something the management has refuted (Dreher & Dougherty, 2001). They contend that, in most of the areas where Wal-Mart operates, they have created several job opportunities for other business apart from their own. What these people forget is that if one is considering the retail section of each region, employees cannot move from one region to another and customers can only shop in their own region. This is enough justification for the entry of Wal-Mart into the local market in the retail division (Neumark, Zhang & Ciccarella, 2005). The labor demand in a certain retail sector is a derived demand, and; therefore, affected by a variety of factors in the market for retail services. With this in mind, Wal-Mart affects labor demand in the retail sector by sufficiently supplying retail services and adopting technology, which will change labor intensity in the retail sector. Training at Wal-Mart is an ongoing thing and it is an essential part of the company. Each employee starts with an in-depth personal orientation (Weinswig & Tang, 2010). They are initiated to the history and traditions of the company while highlighting the roles and responsibilities the employee will be taking on upon joining the company. After orientation is over, each department has its own specific and detailed training and development program that gives to the employee the knowledge skills and tools needed to succeed in the company. Each employee has to chart out their own career path and endeavor to accomplish their most ambitious goals. Wal-Mart also offers several training prospects to assist managers develop their leadership skills and progress through the company to ensure their teams are motivated and passionate in fulfillin g the companyââ¬â¢s mission running. They offer a management training program referred to as Assistant Management Training (AMT), which is open to all employees of the firm based in the United States. A person needs to apply in order to be chosen so as to benefit from this course. Also, there is the Walton Institute, which provides an educational environment for Wal-Mart leaders from all over the world to stretch themselves and explore the
